Are the face card designs of playing cards copyrighted material?

I've examined decks made by different makers, namely Bee and Bicycle, and each face card is the exact same design as its counterpart in the other deck. I'd imagine if there was a copyright, it's probably expired long ago. Can anyone confirm this? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanx, J Paul.

The Ace of Spades and the Joker are copyrighted, but the thing you have overlooked is U S Playing Card Company makes both Bee and Bicycle, as well as Aviator, Maverick, Tally-ho, Hoyle, Streamline and Gemaco. Thats why so many of the ones you examined looked alike. There are a few more manufacturers out there and occasionally you will see slight differences.
Reply:the only copyrighted card in any deck is the ace of spades....and sometimes the jokers
