How do i make a simple playing card launcher?

For science class, I need to make some sort of rig that will throw a playing card. Anyone know how a really simple way to do this would be?

"Mythbusters" made a card launcher in one episode using two horizontal rotating wheels that were spaced apart with only a very small gap in-between. I suppose that you could use a single motor to rotate them both (so that they turn at the same speed) by using a belt and/or gears.
Reply:hmmm... Try designing a rig that uses a wheel. When you put the cards under it the wheel will launch the cards when you put it on them and it's going fast enough. I'm sure you can build something like that out of K'nexs

how can i open a pack of playing cards nicely so the sticky residue isn't left from the seal? Up til now i've cut the seal in half using a knife but that leaves the seal on the pack and it looks bad. How can i remove the seal really nicely?

I've always used the knife method, but i have used alcohol to remove the sticky residue from other packages before. I'd use a cloth with a little alcohol on it and see if that works.

so you would think you'd have a 17/52 chance of drawing an ace or a club

there is the ace of clubs. it's an ace, and it's a club. so if you said the probability was 17/52, you would have counted the ace of clubs twice, once as a club, and once as an ace. but there's only one card there!

Delete the game you are having problems with. It will reload next time you visit the site. Then log on to yahoo mail or answers, Before you click on games. Being pre-logged in seems to make things go better and faster..





Yahoo games open with a pop up. Most toolbars like yahoo and internet explorer have pop up blockers! When you try getting in lounge or room and it doesn't work. click on pop up blocker on yahoo tool bar. On the drop down list click on Always allow tab it will say recent pop ups blocked. high light yahoo.com then click allow.


. IE browser settings to allow pop ups Right click on Tools, internet options, privacy tab, cookie over ride. Type in Yahoo.com, allow then ok. This is the proper way to use the pop up blocker. I have never had a problem or had to hold any keys down to get in.


If you are using norton antivirus you may need to turn it off until you are in room.

I also assume you are looking at this as a career, so I will aim your answer in that direction: The people who deal the cards are dealers, and going to school is not required. I had a friend who went to school teach me 12 years ago, so I never went to school. You do need to start out at a "lower grade" of casino, where you will not make enough money to survive. After a few months of practice you will improve and get a better job. In most cases you will continue to work your way up until you have a job on the strip, where you will encounter your first "extra board".


An extra board is a way to keep you as a part-time employee so you receive no benefits. No vacation, holiday pay, sick pay or insurance. This can last as much as 5 years before you become "full-time",and can be structured in many ways. You may be scheduled only as needed, working 5 days one week and then having 3 weeks off. The worst are the casinos that want you to call in to see if there were "sick calls" that need replacement. You would need to call into the pit at 6:00 AM, 2:00 PM and 10:00 PM. Three times a day, seven days per week. These calls are required, so you would never have a day off!


As for the bosses: What is commonly referred to as a "Pit Boss" is actually a "Casino Floor Supervisor". This person will oversee 4 - 6 games in his/her section. The "Pit Boss", or correctly titled "Pit Manager" will oversee 6 Floor Supervisors. Above the Pit Manager will be the Casino Shift Manager, who oversees the Pit Managers.

In some games they are also called house.

Reply:We are called Live Games Dealers and we call the pit supervisor "floor!" when we want their attention. And we are trained for 3 weeks before being allowed on the gaming floor. Its a fun job most days because you get paid to play games.
Reply:There are two major terms used for people who deal cards at a casino, both of which are correct: Croupiers or Dealers. If you have an apptitude for cards then the training is usually done on site at the casino


The people who oversee card games are usually known as Pit Bosses/Managers.

There's a book called the Goodly Spell Book. I got mine from the local library. It has a chart of what every card in a deck means. You take a plain deck and tell a person to chose a card that seems right not just a random one but with the cards down have them pick one up that feels right. The book says what it means for them. It's very vague but specific enough to give you a clue of what's to come. It can work vice versa too. The person holds the deck out for you and you pick the card and refer to the chart.

No, there are not glasses, as in eye glasses which can see thru playing cards, however, there are optical devices which can see thru paper, or playing cards. Infra red viewers, and other spectrum optics can 'see' thru various materials. In theory, an Xray machine, is a kind of optic viewer which 'sees' images thru materials which the naked human eye cannot see thru. This wouldnt help you win at Texas Hold'em ... since Xray lenses would be unable to read the opposite face of a playing card, they would allow you to view the skeletal structure of your opponent.

I deal poker in Las Vegas and most major casinos use either the kem cards or the copage. Both are a little smaller then a normal deck of cards, plus they are made of plastic and not paper. They do this because it is hard to mark a plastic card and they last so much longer then paper cards do, we only change are set-ups at work once a month. But these cards can be expensive to buy, they run from 12-25 bucks a deck. good luck..

Assuming you don't put the cards back in the deck, the odds are 311,875,200 (or 52x51x50x49x48) to 1. If you put the cards back in the deck, the odds are 380,204,032 to 1, or 52 to an exponent of 5.

Has anyone else encountered a computer glitch when playing the lottery instant win cards online?

Playing nthe "Big Money" Instant Win Game online - on game 2, I revealled 2 Pound signs and a cash value of 1000 Pounds. This should have been a win but the ticket did not indicate a win. I have spoken with the Lottery and they acknowledge this glitch does indeed happen and say cookies on my pc could be a problem. They have not put this in writing.


They say they will re-run the game but that a win or lose ticket is pre-determined and the reveal is just an animation - UNBELIEVABLE. Has this happened to anyone else - and what would you do about it?

You can't chat under the table anymore. Yahoo! did this to cut down on the cheating and speed up the game.

Depends on the card game! You must be more specific. As an example, Texas Hold 'Em probably has 200 or more terms, including slang. Some examples:





You are dealt two down card. Here are some slang terms were various pairings of cards:





10 2 is "the Doyle Brunson" (because Doyle won two tournaments with this hand)


A A is "bullets" or "pocket rockets"


A K is "big slick"


Q Q is "ladies"


J J is "fish hooks"


5 5 is "the speed limit"





And so on.





The 5 cards on the board are called the "community cards." They are deal 3 at once (the flop) then one (the turn or 4th street) and the last card (the river or 5th street).





A straight A to 5 is called "a wheel" and a straight 10 to A is a "tree top."


Three of a kind with a pair is called a full house, a full boat, or simply a boat.


Three of a kind is called a set.


Having the best possible hand is called "the nuts." You will also hear "the nut straight" or "the nut flush," etc.

I heard a guy tell a story, with a deck of playing cards, of four guys going out on the town. Any1 no of this?

It has been a long time since I witnessed this. The guy used the full deck of cards to shuffle. He would represent characters in the story with Kings Queens Jacks and maybe the Aces... I am not exactly sure how it went. It seems that there were four guys went out on the town ( he would then throw down four kings) all the while that he was talking, he would be shuffling the cards. When he told of the guys meeting four ladies, he would throw down four queens. Then four other guys became involved ( the four jacks). My question is... Does anyone know or better yet... Can anyone tell me the mechanics of a story like this? It was really facinating to watch this guy deal the cards. I would ask him but I lost contact many many moons ago.

Reply:Yes, I do that trick. Email me and I will teach you how to set up the deck and what to do and say. He lets others cut the deck, it was never shuffled. He is always aware of the cards at all times.

Here's one of my favorite Card Tricks:





1. Deal three piles of cards, face down, until you have seven in each pile. Set aside the rest of the deck.


Note: This trick only works if you deal three piles at a time, instead of dealing one pile of seven following by another two piles of seven.


2. Ask someone to pick one of the piles


3. Display the chosen cards in a fan to your volunteer. Ask your volunteer to choose a card but not to tell you what is is.


4. Gather up the cards and put the pile containing the chosen card in between the other two piles.Deal the cards in the same way again into three piles of seven.


5. Pick up one pile at a time and display them to the volunteer, asking him to identify the pile which contains his card.


6. Once again, put this pile between the other two, and deal out the cards into three piles.


7. Fan out the cards for a third time. Ask the volunteer to identify the pile containing his card, then put this pile between the other two.


8. Solemnly spell out the word ABRACADABRA, dealing one card for each of the letters spoken out loud. Turn over the final card to show it is the chosen one!





From my own experience, though, I'd recommend not spelling out ABRACADABRA out loud, instead spell it in your mind.

The way I learned was start at 0 then when a face card comes up your add+1, add 1 every time a face card comes up and you subtract one when anything under a 10 comes up. so when you get to a +6 the odds of a low card coming up greatly increases,visa-versaif you are at -6.( 10's are just like a face card)
